Past, Present and Future’ held at the BUP

A seminar titled “Taxation in Bangladesh: Past, Present and Future” organized by the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Bangladesh Professionals University (BUP) on Wednesday, May 11.

Taxation is one of the main sources of government revenue to cover development revenue and expenditure to achieve certain economic and social objectives such as income redistribution, price stabilization and prevention of harmful consumption. The seminar was organized to discuss the past, present and future tax system in Bangladesh to accelerate successful tax reforms, a press release said.

Planning Minister MA Mannan, MP graced the occasion as the chief guest while Major General BUP VC Md Mahbub-ul Alam, ndc, afwc, psc, MPhil, PhD attended as special guest.

Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mazid, former Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh and former Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) delivered the keynote address. Brigadier General Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, ndc, psc, dean, FASS chaired the seminar.

In his closing speech, the Honorable Minister said that to maintain the stability of the country’s economy, new areas would be explored to increase the scope of the tax system. He called on all to work together to create qualified human resources who would be able to use foreign loans in a judicial manner and repay them on time.

Among others, BUP Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, senior BUP officials, faculty members and students also attended the seminar.
