Ekiti government partners with professional bodies on taxation

The Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to partner with professional bodies to ensure efficient service delivery and increase internally generated revenue.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, while receiving leaders from the Ado Ekiti branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) headed by the President, Mr. Kayode Daniel, who was visiting from courtesy to his office, the Chairman of the State Revenue Service, Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunmilade said that the state government will continue to partner with the CITN and other professionals to ensure that issues related to the taxation in the state are dealt with in a professional manner.

Ogunmilade commended the institute for the high level of professionalism exhibited by the body, noting that it has helped promote good ethics and efficiency in tax administration and practice.

Emphasizing the cordial relationship between him and the institute, Ogunmilade said he remains a bona fide member who has continued to contribute his quota to the development of the body and will not let up on his contributions.

The IRS boss, however, advised the institute to organize regular programs such as seminars and workshops for its members to refresh their knowledge and keep them updated on current issues in taxation, emphasizing that “training builds confidence, enriches knowledge, increases performance, improves skills as well as creates greater efficiency which leads to increasingly higher profitability.

In response, CITN Chairman Daniel stressed the importance of ensuring professionalism in tax administration, which he said would ensure effective service delivery.

He added that effective and efficient tax administration will always generate increased revenue in government coffers.

Daniel said, “A well-organized tax system would help taxpayers better understand the situation and reduce the cost of compliance.”
